By the time my daughter finished up the final term of her iGCSEs and enjoyed her summer break on the beach in Barcelona in 2011, the cats and I had been settled into life in Bangalore for over four months.

The monsoon breeze is blowing and the rains are pouring down at our flat in Jaimahal and I’m inspired to do something I don’t normally do…write a short and honest ‘my diary’ post inspired by some things from my week.

So it’s been just over a year since I’ve been writing Angela’s Adventure In Bangalore.  I started it just for my friends and family so in the beginning I didn’t have an email address so readers could contact me or a Facebook page – because only 30 or 40 people were reading my blog each day and they all had my contact info.

“All the leaves are brown and the sky is grey.”  I was born in L.A. and whenever I hear the first words from The Mamas & The Papas classic hippie-movement song California Dreaming it always warms my heart just a bit.  Yet today these words actually sum up what all of us in Bangalore are experiencing on this windy and dreary winter day.

For the past three weeks I have been in Sitges (Barcelona), Spain, fixing my employment visa for India following my change in jobs (read about that here).  Spain has been my place of residence and home for the eight years immediately prior to my move to Bangalore five months ago.

Anyone who has ever lived abroad or traveled outside your home country knows that sometimes it is simply impossible to avoid standing out.  India is not the first foreign country I have lived in.
